PhD Research Fellowship in biostatistics / bioinformatics in Oslo (Norway)

Dear all,
We are looking for candidates for an exciting PhD Research Fellowship in biostatistics / bioinformatics to work on statistical methods for personalised therapies in cancer.
 
The PhD student will have a joint affiliation with the Oslo Center for Biostatistics and Epidemiology at the University of Oslo and the Department of Tumor Biology at the Oslo University Hospital. This position is funded through the Center of Excellence for Research-based Innovation "BigInsight: Statistics for the Knowledge Economy".

The successful PhD candidate will explore and develop statistical models for the prediction of drug responses, as well as synergistic effects of drug combinations, and to develop software solutions to make them accessible. The candidate will join the research efforts within the BigInsight project “Personalised cancer therapies” and as such will be part of a growing multi-disciplinary group of researchers in Oslo working on the development of methods for personalised therapies in cancer.

Report from the Data Science and Big Data event on June 16

Almost 150 people gathered in Realfagsbiblioteket in the evening of Friday June 16th, celebrating several happy and exciting data science events at the University of Oslo.
Auditorium 1 was completely full when students presented their data science projects and Christoph Best from Google gave his talk.

BigInsight project in the spot light (even if BigInsight is not mentioned). Important success: a paper is submitted to a peer reviewed journal and will be openly published (also for a proof of correctness and novelty) and a BigInsight partner starts to test our approach in their operations.

SSB wishes to join BigInsight

SSB (Statistics Norway), represented by Anders Holmberg and Øyvind Langsrud, met several of the BigInsight partners and co-directors in a meeting at Norwegian Computing Centre. SSB is considering joining BigInsight as partner. During the meeting we discussed possible synergies, interactions, joint projects and ideas.
