Title: XGBoost - efficient tree boosting
Abstract:
I will give a brief introduction to XGBoost, a very successful machine learning library built around an efficient implementation of boosting for tree models. I will start by explaining how tree models work and demonstrate the principles of boosting, then formulate gradient boosting and the boosting algorithm that XGBoost relies on. Finally, I will review some of the methodological and technical features of the XGBoost library, trying to pinpoint the main reasons for its success and popularity.
The lunch starts at 12:00, and the talk will start around 12:20.
