We are happy to announce the first OCBE biostatistics seminar after the summer, on Tuesday, August 31st, at 14:30-15:30.

Mats Stensrud, Associate Professor at École polytechnique fédérale de Lausanne, will present
Causal inference under resource constraints
Abstract: Many real-life treatments are of limited supply and cannot be provided to all patients in need. For example, many health care systems have experienced shortages of ventilators, protective equipment and personnel during the COVID-19 pandemic. Similarly, there are waiting lists for organ transplants in most health care systems because suitable organs constitute a limited resource.
When resources are limited, policy makers often raise questions about effects of allocation strategies where only a limited proportion of patients receive treatment at a given time. In this talk, I will present current work on causal estimands that target such questions. I will emphasize why existing causal inference methods cannot be used, and I will give new identifiability results and suggest new estimators.

PS: The seminar will also be physically at Domus Medica, but for those sitting elsewhere Zoom is advised due to limited seats being available. Further details on this will be announced before the seminar.
Welcome!
Best wishes,
